August Meteor Showers
Link: August Meteor Showers
Yummy Math creates a great learning activity to get kids excited about an upcoming meteor shower. Using various data points, students must determine what day and time would be the best for viewing the show. Students are constantly pushed to consider different factors about the shower and interpret more data.
In addition to helping students focus on data analysis, this activity meets the Grade 5 NGSS standard 5-ESS1-2: "Represent data in graphical displays to reveal patterns of daily changes in length and direction of shadows, day and night, and the seasonal appearance of some stars in the night sky" and also the Science Practice: "Analyzing and Interpreting Data."
Please note: There is a minor grammatical error on the attached worksheet ("it's" in lieu of "its"). Teachers may want to point this out to students or wait for them to find it.
